Madara Horseman is a monument situated on a rock, at 23m high, near the town of Shoumen. It is one of the Bulgarian sites, included in UNESCO’s list of World Heritage site. The monument represents a horseman who is poking a lion. Researchers believe that this scene symbolizes the victory of Bulgaria upon the East Roman Empire and founding of the Bulgarian state. Around it, on the rock, there are inscriptions of Bulgarian rulers.
