In Antiquity Bulgarian lands were inhabited by Thracians. Although these people didn’t have script they had developed culture. They have left us amazing artifacts, unique stone tombs with murals. Thracians believed in immortality. In their faith rituals Thracians used golden and silver artifacts. Now we call them treasures. But for ancient people its value was sacred. It was believed that gold is not just a metal, but it could connect the world of living with the world of dead. Until now, many Thracian treasures were discovered in Bulgaria- Rogozen Silver Treasure-the biggest found in Bulgaria-almost 20 kilos, the silver treasure from Borovo, Letniza treasure, Valchitrun Treasure, gold findings from Kazanlak and Vratza. Probably the most famous is The Golden Treasure from Panagyurishte-made of over 6 kilos pure gold, with very rich decoration. This treasure is an example of ancient art and it is very precisely made, a masterpiece of gold carving.
The most ancient gold in Europe was found in Bulgaria too- the gold from Varna Halcollite Necropoles. Scientists date it between 5000-4000 B.C.
These findings enlighten how people from the past have lived and what believe they had.
