The 22 Congress of Byzantine Studies in Sofia, Bulgaria 2011
The 22 International Congress of Byzantine Studies takes place in Sofia, Bulgaria from 22 till 27 of August 2011.
Prof. Axinia Djurova, co-chairperson of the congress from the University of Sofia, reported that 80 per cent of all 1176 scientists from 39 countries in the 22 International Congress of Byzantine Studies were young people.
So there is a great interest among young scientists about powerful Byzantium. At the congress there are 7 sittings with delivering reports,
30 round tables’ discussions, exhibitions, a concert, selling books and other events all about Bulgaria and Byzantium.
The 22 International Congress of Byzantine Studies goes under the slogan Byzantium Without Borders.
Some of the connected events are the exhibitions Byzance après Byzance at the National Museum of History and The Brilliance of Byzantium,
Greek Illuminated Manuscripts from the Balkans VI –XVIII centuries at the National Gallery of Foreign Art on the Alexander Nevski circle in Sofia.
The tourists of tours of Bulgaria and Albania and the participants in the congress are interested in seeing the Codices Purpureus Beratinus
at the exhibition The Brilliance of Byzantium, Greek Illuminated Manuscripts from the Balkans VI –XVIII centuries at the National Gallery of Foreign Art or in Sofia, Bulgaria only in August 2011.
